Embroidered Alice dress from Tessuti Fabrics

After making two versions of the Alice top from Tessuti Fabrics, I finally made the Alice dress!

I recently took an intro class on embroidery at Workshop to complement my new sewing skills, and had been planning to embroider this dress before I even made it.

Dress: self-made, shoes: Jeffrey Campbell

This was my first time sewing pockets–a little tricky but they turned out great 🙂 The only modification I made on the pattern was the length–it was a little long for my taste, so I chopped off a couple of inches.

For the embroidery, I used two simple stitches: the fern stitch along the front and back of the sleeves and across the front of the bodice, and a cluster of french knots on the bodice.

The embroidery was inspired by the Canyon Lands dress from Spool 72. I almost went with the same color scheme, but I ended up choosing a comfy chambray fabric and navy blue thread for mine.

I recently subscribed to Seamwork magazine to receive two new patterns a month, so I’m already gearing up for my next project(s)!
